About This Paper
Die Astropänz retten einen Außerirdischen ("The Astropänz rescue an alien") is an astronomy project developed for grades 5–6 in collaboration with the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO Germany). The narrative — an alien needs help finding their home planet — motivates the activities: stations on tidal locking and day and night (simulation app), seasons and axial tilt (solar cell), a virtual tour of exoplanets (NASA Exoplanet Travel Bureau), the right distance from the star (states of water, habitable zone), and film-canister rockets with a soft landing. The MNU-Journal article describes the pedagogical design and classroom testing results.
